The restriction to 15 vessels per day effectively blocks 12 million barrels per day (mb/d) of crude oil production. This volume is equivalent to the combined daily consumption of the following major "first world" economies: [1]

Europe's Largest Economies: More than the combined daily usage of Germany ($2.1$ mb/d), France ($1.5$ mb/d), the UK ($1.4$ mb/d), Italy ($1.3$ mb/d), and Spain ($1.3$ mb/d).

Major Asian/Pacific Allies: Equivalent to the total daily consumption of Japan ($3.1$ mb/d), South Korea ($2.5$ mb/d), Canada ($2.4$ mb/d), and Australia ($1.1$ mb/d) combined.

United States Comparison: It represents roughly 60% of the daily oil consumption of the United States ($20.5$ mb/d). [2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

Global Impact

The current traffic of roughly 15 approved vessels is a massive reduction from the normal 100+ daily tankers that typically transit the Strait. [7, 8]

Total Volume Blocked: 12 million barrels per day.

Global Supply Hit: Approximately 12% of the world's daily oil consumption (~$102$ mb/d).

Alternative Routes: Pipelines through Saudi Arabia and the UAE can only bypass roughly 3.5 to 5.5 mb/d, leaving a massive "supply gap" that emergency reserves cannot easily fill long-term. [1, 9, 10, 11, 12]
